Program Description

This program is designed to be completed in one year during the 11th or 12th grade.

Home Health Aide Course (2 Credits) Home Health Aide provides students with the knowledge and basic skills necessary for entering advanced health and medical sciences programs and/or securing entry-level employment as a home health aide in a private home or other healthcare setting. Access to a clinical training facility is essential.

Mental Health Assisting Course (1 Credit) This course provides classroom instruction and hands-on learning in preparation for a career as a mental health technician or in the mental health field. Students gain an understanding of how to provide routine care and perform therapeutic procedures, respond to emergency situations, provide patient rehabilitation, and facilitate patient recreational activities. They prepare to assist mental health professionals in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community mental health facilities.

Clinical Experience: Instruction takes place in a clinical long-term setting under the supervision of a nurse, providing real-world experience.

Leadership and Career Skills: The course helps students develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills through high-quality work-based learning opportunities.

Certifications: Upon completing this course and the accompanying mental health assisting class, students will be eligible to take the certification examination for Mental Health Assisting and Workplace Readiness certification.
