Students who complete this program have the oppourtunity to earn a minimum of 34 college credits through the program's dual enrollment with Reynolds Community College which may lead to several potential career paths. Here are some possibilities:

  • Elementary or Secondary School Teacher: With further education and a bachelor's degree, students can pursue a career in teaching at various levels.

  • Educational Administrator: After gaining experience in teaching and additional qualifications, students can move into roles such as school principals or district administrators.

  • School Counselor: With additional education in counseling, students can support the academic and emotional well-being of students.

  • Special Education Teacher: Specializing in working with students with disabilities, this role requires additional training and certification.

  • Educational Consultant: Advising schools and educational institutions on curriculum development, teaching strategies, and educational technology.

Program Description

Length : 2 years (6 high school credits)

This is designed to be completed in two years, during the 11th and 12th grades.

Junior Year Expectations:

  • Courses: Students will take three courses at ACE @ Hermitage: Teachers for Tomorrow I and two core classes that are dual enrolled with Reynolds Community College.

    Counselors will assist each student in selecting the appropriate dual-enrolled courses to fit their individual schedules.

  • Internship: During the second semester, students complete a 40-hour student internship, working directly with an HCPS master teacher. This hands-on experience provides invaluable insights that no textbook can fully capture.

Senior Year Expectations:

  • Courses: Students will take Teachers for Tomorrow II at ACE @ Hermitage and two additional dual-enrolled classes with Reynolds Community College.

  • Internships: Students complete two student-teaching internships in different grade levels or subject areas, along with various job-shadowing experiences, offering a well-rounded perspective of the educational system.

Please note that the pathway to obtaining teacher licensure generally necessitates a bachelor's degree. Through the dual enrollment program, our two-year program equips graduates with a mimimum of 34 college credits transferable throughout Virginia colleges and universities, without incurring any initial college debt.
